We love it all the way from Sydney.

Cause I feel like it
Anyhoo, there have been a few Etsy updates that I've neglected to post here, but we were having a relatively decent run of sales, so I guess I got a little cocky and didn't bother. Plus I'm a working lady. So's Dear Golden, I hear you say, or she was anyway, and she still manages to upload a gazillion listings every day plus blog posts and barely breaks a sweat. Well we're only human, whereas she's clearly tapping into some Jedi force that keeps her productivity at frighteningly high levels. Impressive. But Abs finished her PhD so I'm going to count that as a win. I have 6 weeks of work to go - preemptive hurrah. In photography news I got a new 35mm prime lens that I'm itching to bust out, we scored a new dress form, and have a giant wad of things to shoot and add to the store. All in good time, my friends. All in good time. I am not even going to proof read this rambling blog entry. Til next time...

Summer breeze
I am officially sick of cold weather.
In other news, I wish I could take a picture as well as this teenage wonder. Go forth, dear reader, and peruse her flickr.

Orange hangs
In between messing around with my stats n'graphs, the boif and I have been taking little trips around the country. This morning we headed out to Canowindra for the annual swap meet at the showgrounds. There wasn't anything terribly exciting there, but it was great to look at all the weird stuff for sale. We learnt all about the different types of local honey, and found a great enamel kettle.
My favourite find of the day was this pimped up billy cart. How awesome would it be to take this little princess for a spin down a grassy hill? I love the floral vinyl seat covers and sword inspired steering device.

But sadly, I was only able to take a photo of the billy cart and its clapped out friend. But what I did puchase this week was this wonderful homemade limegreen wool cable jumper. Is it possible to even imagine a better colour for such a sweater?

I sat for a long time in the sun drinking my tea from a panda mug before I realised, no. It's just not possible.

Chanel No.5
I do like a bit of Audrey Tatou mixed in Jean-Pierre Jeunet stylings, but I found it a bit hard not to crack a laugh during this. It's beautiful and evocative and all, but I guess I'm not in the target market for high end perfume and the perfectly chiselled dude in the tight man-shirt smelling her shoulders and stuff. I'm still trying to figure out what she was smelling while she was nude in the overnight sleeper cabin.
Gosh I like her hair though!

The Sartorialist in Sydney

Gadzooks! Check out dear Sam, handsome sunovagun that he is, featured in The Sartorialist.
Once you've marveled at his photogenics, head on over to his blog and gaze at his beautiful photographic works.
Meanwhile, Pony's chalk animation music video was blogged by Kanye!

Coraline Crafts
You may also be aware that I'm a fan of craft. Non-sequitor this is not, because these two glorious worlds have collided.
Check out the amazing miniature knitting that was created for the movie:
Who in heck knits that small?

Barmuda
Dear Dudes,
Been house hunting like crazy.
While on a break, dropped in at Barmuda for some vanilla rice and berries. Verdict: delicious! I hear that Barmuda is run by the same dudes who run Oscillate Wildly, which I've been meaning to try, if time would ever permit. And I'm not a coffee drinker, but my homies gave the Barmuda coffee four thumbs up, should anyone be on the lookout for decent coffee in Newtown and Campos is chockers, like it always is.
Would love to find a Sydney cafe that is as snobby about tea as it is about coffee. Any tips, let me know.
P.S. Abs and I are aware of our shop absence. Some stuff is going down and we're working on it. We have awesome stuff coming out of our ears and there is a slight bottle neck when it comes to listing them, but stuff is happening, rest assured.

Marais

Marais shoes come courtesy of a couple of stylish young whippersnappers from NY. Super cute and stylish but cheeeeeep.
These puppies aren't available to buy until May, but my gosh they're cute. And well-priced. Maybe international shipping might render them otherwise. I'm not gonna think about that right now.

style rookie

Just dropping in today - Abs and I are both busy with our other lives, although the store, she runneth, while my Google Reader overfloweth.
Still, I found time to add Style Rookie to my reading list, a fashion blog written by this incredibly cool and precocious twelve year old, yes, twelve year old. You guys are probably all over it, but I only just discovered her. She has a really sophisticated and adventurous sense of style with her cute bob and oversized shades. At her age I was wearing paint splotched tracksuit jumpers and the only fashionable things I yearned for were Reebok pumps and Hypercolour t-shirts.

How much are you willing to pay for vintage?
Some pieces are great enough to pay a premium for. But I wonder how much is too much? On our various online trawls for vintage buys we often drop by Damsel Vintage. Her shop is super popular, and deservedly so - her shop is well designed, she takes great photos and most importantly, the pieces are always quality.
So we're watching this dress (I seem to be having an issue with uploading pics to Blogger at the moment, but I'll try to get one up soon), a lovely indian cotton 70s maxi dress. A bidding war ensues, and the dress finally goes for $711.18. That's Australian dollars, by the way. That's about $550US, or 300 British pounds. It's beautiful dress, of course, but I confess my heart broke a little, thinking of all the other fine vintage goodies now sitting un-bought and unloved in favour of this one dress. Now I have been known to overpay for things from time to time because I loved them that much, but I've never parted with $711.18 for anything new, let alone a vintage piece, let alone one without a designer tag sewn into it.
So riddle me this, blog readers, how much are you willing to pay for vintage? What sort of criteria to you apply when making your decision? And if it's not to gauche to ask, how far have you gone in the pursuit of your dream vintage piece? Did you regret it, or are you wearing what you bought right now, as you hang out on the Internet, to get your money's worth?

Getting crafty with vintage fabrics
We managed to squeeze in a couple hours of mending and hemming recently and were brainstorming over what we could do with all the vintage fabric scraps we're accumulating.
Isn't this bow headband cute as hell? This crafty lady is giving us a lot of ideas, and I'm in love with her flickr photos, ...

In the store now! Our favourites are the awesome 1970s black disco halter jumpsuit (it has POCKETS) and the 80s floral dress with tulle underskirt (I had it up on etsy when I was still in Germany)

Ebay lace collars. I WON!
I slapped down the minimum amount, thinking I would definitely be out-bid, but then I just got an email saying I won. How often does that happen. Now I just have to figure out what to do with them!
Ideas very welcome.

eBay reminder...

We had a weird scheduling thing happen with Auctiva and a few of our listings got put up at about 7.30am Sydney time. Cuh-RAZY. So if you have been watching anything at the store, a few choice pieces are ending tomorrow morning, so vigilance, constant vigilance, ladies.

so long, and thanks for all the...wurst?
Last night here. Still packing sort of. Working on my snack bag for the plane. Just realised I forgot to buy any pretzel sticks. It hurts, oh it hurts.

Bam communication
"I keep having dreams that I'm the deputy prime minister. Last night I was having an awkward conversation with you about how I was going to keep my Bam responsibilities going, whilst I ran the country."
Just in case you didn't know how much Bam informs our every day lives...
saltwater sandals
OK, it might still be the dead of Winter here, but as I'm going back to Sydney in a few days I need to ready myself for the disgusting heatwave I'm told is going on.
So I've treated myself to a pair of saltwater sandals (got em in RED), and hopefully they'll arrive not too long after I get home (yay). Did you know you cannot get saltwaters in Australia for love nor money? I paid a monstrous shipping charge for these honeys, and I'm going to love them dagnabit.
