Sorry folks, we had a couple of quiet weeks in the store recently. My excuse? I moved to Berlin and didn't have good enough Internet to pull me through. Also Abs and I have been working out the kinks of running the store in different countries. So, with offices in Sydney Australia, and Berlin Germany, I give you - new awesome items for auction right now!!

A good friend of ours once made the following comment:

The good news is that sailors are hot again...but I guess we are in a war so that sort of makes sense. Sartorially speaking however, this is what I mean:

Such a cute look, one that I don't think I can personally pull off or commit to. The last time I rocked the sailor look I believe I was six and begging my mother to make me a sailor suit, so I'm loving that the nautical themes are once again coming out of the woodwork.

The Peg Trouser

Several months ago, we started collecting pairs of 80s trousers with pleated fronts and tapered pegged legs. The pegged trouser look is so hot right now, and all over street style blogs at the moment. Par example:

I myself splurged last season on a pair of Lover Ginsberg double-waisted peg trousers, in a moment of weakness when I felt frivolous and cashed up. No pictures as yet - I left them in Sydney and am waiting for them to be brought to me in Berlin in a couple weeks.

Anyhoo, observe this awesome pair of pegged trousers we've listed in the store:




So here's the deal - we've listed these babies twice now, no to avail. Initially we thought it had something to do with the cold weather, but it's warm now and nothing's changed. It isn't the photography, because I think Abs looks super hot. So WTF? Peg trousers are awesome people!! Get on board!

We discovered Persephone Vintage via the awesome Cup of Jo. A store full of the cutest pieces!

The weather in Sydney is cuh-razy right now. Hot hot Spring. 31 degree celsius weather. As for me, I'm shivering in my boots in this Autumnal Berlin.

Roaring 20s

I love hats. I wish I didn't feel so self conscious wearing them, but whenever I try one and look to Abs for approval, she either shakes her head definitively or tries not to laugh. The 1920s are my favourite era for millinery. If only we were in New York for the Jazz-Age Party on Governor's Island this year.

Thrifting in Georgia

Just to recap: Absy and I met up in Miami Florida last week for a thrifting binge around the state and into Georgia. Here's where we went:

Kissimmee, Fl: The guy at the motel we stayed at was shocked to hear that we weren't planning to going to Disneyland. SHOCKED. He gave us a map and directions on how to get there anyway. We hit a few large thrift stores, namely Goodwill and Salvos. Thrifting quality: OK, but bigger thrift store chains tend to be more exy and picked over. Natch.

Winter Park, Fl: Kind of a bust.

Apopka & Casselberry, FL: The highlight of this town was the giant Thriftko store...I wish I could remember where it was exactly. Giant racks of dresses going for a song. We left with a couple big bags of stuff.

Eustis, Fl: we got here too late and had to move on because it was a bit of a dud town (albeit with a beautiful lake) and there was nowhere decent for us to stay. Some of the thrift stores looked pretty good, but oh well.

Leesburg, Fl: Oh blessed Leesburg. In this small town there were about 7 or 8 thrift stores, none of them big, but many of them were good to us. The LMC thrift store gave us dresses and shoes. The LCMR thrift store was amazing. It was huge and such good value. Unbelievable.

After Leesburg we decided to head into Georgia - first stop:

Valdosta, GA: The Treasure Box thrift store was stuffed to high heaven. We found some great 60s milk maid style juniors dresses.

Waycross: Waycross Thrift...ohhhh, they're all beginning to blur into one. I seem to recall carrying out bags of awesome stuff

Alma GA: A depressing town, but we found a wonderful 70s maxi dress with a bustle. Amazing.

Savannah GA: Absy wanted to go here because of the 90s soap of the same name, she didn't mention it at the time, but I was thinking of it too all along. Savannah is a beautiful, beautiful historic town. It's small, and not crowded at all. We hit Blessingdale's Thrift where we walked out with 4 pairs of shoes and a beautiful mint green 50s dress a la Grace Kelly.

Anyway, we'll get photos up of some of our finds as soon as we can. Now we're back in Florida, in the town of Jupiter, holed up at the Hampton Inn watching cable and kicking back after a long drive.

What we wore...

We took this behind the Treasure Box thrift store in Valdosta, Georgia. We turned up just before 10am and it was shut - we were so disappointed. So we took the opportunity to take a shot of us in 80s denim pinny jumper theme. Just so everyone knows - we're not in the habit of dressing alike, but I had the denim jumper in my suitcase, and when we found another for Absy it seemed wrong not to do it.

Anyway, a dude in a pickup drove past and parked as we were taking the shot. He gave us a strange look. He turned out to be the owner of the store, so we got in there after all, and left with about three bags' worth of goodies.

On the road...

So we're on the road in the USA, but we're still working on our weekly auctions as usual:

We've been thrifting for two days, and have already got some gorgeous pieces that will make it to the store eventually.

In the coming days we'll be posting pics of our journey so far, and of some of the things we've bought along the way...

Aw yeah!

Blog posting so erratic indeed. I'm off on a mini-road trip around New England, Absy's on her way to South America, but auctions are set for the next three weeks. We'll be online from time to time but we may not respond as quickly as usual. However, as we have a little monkey taking care of our postage at 123Bam HQ, everything will be posted out superfast as usual - hooray!

The near future...

Auctions may be erratically listed over the next few weeks as we're both heading overseas. Absy has a conference and I have no such useful purpose, just fun and frivolity, but we'll eventually meet somewhere in America's deep south for op-shopping goodness, and hope to bring back some goodies for you all. Afterwards I'm moving off to Berlin for a stint and we'll both continue to run the store from our respective locations - because we CAN!

Vain and Vapid

Forget vintage clothes for a moment - I just bought this:













The Scrooged shirtdress from Vain and Vapid's etsy store. Loving the shirtdresses right now (which you might pick up in the coming weeks as our shirtdress collection is bursting at the seams...we're instigating a slooow deployment of said garments so we don't overload the store with them). I was planning on getting a little greedy and waiting until her next shop update so I could get two things and save on postage, but an update came and went and it seems this lady Julie's new store is already too popular for my mouse finger to get a click in edgewise.

There is one Scrooged dress left right now if anyone's interested. I'm excited!

We're really starting to get into the swing of having an online store, and we love it. The highs and the lows.

Poor Laura Ashley

My very first blog entry.

Ever.

And it's inspired by poor Laura Ashley.

Ever since I was a child I can't help but think of her whenever I see floral. I remember my aunt telling me how poor Laura Ashley died, on her birthday, after falling down the stairs, in her daughter's house. So sad. But at least she got to fill the world with rustic and romantic florals and frills and English and Welsh flowers before her untimely topple.

Apparently Laura's husband once remarked that "Laura had the whole world dressed as milk maids". Which leads me to this little number. A slinky vintage Laura Ashley knit tube dress.

Where is the floral? Where are the frills? Where is the rustic romance? Where are the cows?

You know what? I don't even care. It's 100% pure merino wool, a fantastic colour and sits so nicely around the bottom region.
